Curtis LeMair

February 11th, 2000 - October 17th, 2018

Curtis’ first symptom
was his last symptom.

Curtis was a 2018 graduate of Prior Lake High School. He was a talented wrestler and went to Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD on a wrestling scholarship. Curtis had a passion for life and a smile that could light up any room. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but was most passionate about his family and friends.

Eight weeks after he moved to NSU to begin his college career, Curtis went to normal wrestling practice and went back to his dorm for homework and dinner. He went to sleep that night and didn’t wake up the next morning. He died in his sleep from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Because he was an athlete, Curtis had several routine physicals throughout his youth that cleared him to participate in sports. No one knew that Curtis had an arrhythmia due to idiopathic left ventricular hypertrophy.  His heart was twice the size it should have been. A simple stethoscope was not enough to detect his condition. An echocardiogram would have provided an image of his heart and alerted us to his condition before it was too late.

Curtis was a son, a brother, a friend… he was and is loved beyond measure. Because of that love we commit to honoring his legacy by bringing awareness to SCA in youth, awarding scholarships in his name, and providing camp experiences at Camp Curty.

Most of all we want to save lives and change lives in his name.

Our mission

Our family created The Curtis LeMair Legacy Foundation to honor Curtis, his goals, the tenacious way he loved life, and to advocate for SCA regulation and prevention.
